Privacy Policy

We built e-landlord to give Nigerians a safer, more transparent way to find a home. That commitment extends to how we handle your personal data.

01

Who we are

E-Landlord Technologies operates the e-landlord platform, a direct-to-landlord property rental service in Nigeria. Our registered address is in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. When we say "we," "us," or "e-landlord" in this policy, we mean E-Landlord Technologies and any subsidiaries or affiliated services operating under the e-landlord brand.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and your rights regarding your data. It applies to all users of the e-landlord website and mobile application, both tenants and landlords.

02

Information we collect

We collect the following categories of personal information:

Account information: When you register, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and password. Landlords additionally provide a government-issued ID (NIN or national ID) and property ownership documents.

Profile information: Profile photos, biographical information, and any other details you voluntarily add to your public profile.

Listing information: Property details, addresses, photographs, pricing, and availability information submitted by landlords.

Usage data: Pages visited, search terms used, listings viewed, filters applied, and time spent on the platform. This is collected automatically through cookies and similar tracking technologies.

Device information: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers.

Communication data: Messages sent through our contact forms and support channels. Note that direct communications between tenants and landlords via WhatsApp or phone are outside our system, so we do not have access to those conversations.

03

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

Provide the platform: Create and manage your account, display listings, enable contact between tenants and landlords, and process verifications.

Verify landlords: Cross-reference identity documents and property ownership records to maintain the integrity of the platform.

Improve our service: Analyse usage patterns to understand what features work, what doesn't, and how to make the platform better for Nigerian renters.

Communicate with you: Send account-related notifications (verification updates, listing status changes, new inquiries), security alerts, and, where you have opted in, product news and updates.

Prevent fraud and abuse: Monitor for suspicious activity, investigate reports, and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not use your data for automated decision-making that would produce legal or significant effects without human review.

04

Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Period.

We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

With other users: specifically, tenant contact details are visible to verified landlords when you initiate contact, and landlord contact details are visible to signed-in tenants. We deliberately limit what each party can see before a connection is made.

With service providers: companies that help us operate the platform (hosting, analytics, email delivery). These providers are bound by data processing agreements and may only process your data as instructed by us.

For legal compliance: if required by Nigerian law, a court order, or to protect the safety of users or the public.

In a business transfer: if e-landlord is acquired or merges with another company, your data may be transferred to the new entity under the same privacy protections.

05

Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except for data we are required to retain for legal or regulatory purposes (such as transaction records, which we keep for 7 years in line with Nigerian tax and financial regulations).

Listing data from deleted accounts may be retained in anonymised form for platform analytics.

06

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how you use the platform. We use:

Essential cookies: Required for the platform to function, such as session management, security tokens. Analytics cookies: Help us understand aggregate usage patterns. We use privacy-respecting analytics that do not build individual profiles.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies will affect the functionality of the platform.
